| TRACEY NEVILLE TO BE UNVEILED |
Netball
in the North East is bracing itself for a brave new era after the region’s
only top flight franchise bagged one of the sport’s biggest stars.
Team
Northumbria will today unveil Tracey Neville as their new head coach ahead of
the 2010/11 Super League campaign.
And
the 81-times capped ex-England star can’t wait to set about reviving the
fortunes of a franchise which struggled to avoid last season’s wooden
spoon.
“This
is a great move for me and a fantastic challenge,” said the 33-year-old,
who will lead TN into action at their new £30m Sport Central home.

New Rugby Consultant Steve Bates has called on the Northumbria rugby community to pull together as he puts the finishing touches to this summer's pre-season programme. The former Newcastle Falcons Director Of Rugby is gearing up to Team Northumbria's North One East debut - with an away trip to Carlisle ushering in a brave new era for a club on the the up. And Bates will join Roger Uttley, Stuart Grimes and Northumbria's new head coach in leading a two-week training camp ahead of September's Carlisle clash. "Preparations for the new season are in full flow and the pre-season programme will culminate in a two-week training camp at the newly refurbished Bullocksteads from August 21 - September 4," said Bates. "Every player who represented the University at 1st or 2nd XV level last season is invited to the camp to work on individual, unit and team skills and to put the final touches to their pre-season fitness work." TN won a third successive promotion with a playoff win against Sheffield earlier this year to seal their place in North One East. Further details on next month's training camp and rugby recruitment are available by emailing Heather Steel at

| TEAM NORTHUMBRIA HIT THE BEACH |
Team
Northumbria hit the beach this weekend, entering two amateur teams in
the 18th
Annual Tynemouth Beach Volleyball Tournament. Our teams were up for a
tough day in the sand, as both team A and B were placed in divisions
brimming with former and current national league players. The morning
was ripe for volleyball with sunny weather, and a little wind, yet
team B struggled to find a winner consequently entering the lower
tier division for the afternoon. Hopes rested in the hands of the A
team who triumphed in two closely contested games to amazingly
progress into the upper tier for the rest of the day.

| CHRIS CAN'T WAIT FOR SPORT CENTRAL DATE |
As the summer’s qualifying campaign for EuroBasket 2011 draws near, GB Standard Life Head Coach, Chris Finch, is eagerly awaiting the players' arrival into their training camp in order to begin preparations for what is sure to be an exciting series of international clashes. And the former Sheffield Sharks favourite is stoked about Team GB tipping off this summer's domestic fixtures at Northumbria University's state-of-the-art Sport Central. Finch has selected a squad that reflects experience, as he welcomes back the likes of NBA-star Luol Deng and Pops Mensah-Bonsu, complemented by a number of young players who performed well for the GB Future’s team. “I've always said one of the toughest parts of coaching a national team is that you only get together once a year. As such, we miss the guys and their spirit and are ready to get underway. We must once again prove our worth and I feel that is when we are at our best. |
